I. Background
DKK1, dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor 1, is a glycoprotein that acts to inhibit canonical Wnt signaling, and may play a role in cellular differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Increased expression of Dkk1 is associated with metastasis in hilar cholangiocarcinoma, and both low and high levels of Dkk1 expression have been demonstrated in various tumor types, including lung cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, respectively.
